Some quick 15 minute sketches of our life drawing model!
The first theme was lines, with our model instructed to look somber, so I tried to recreate his face using charcoal with as little smudging as possible, using layering and direction to try and create depth and shape. I think the harshness of this technique lends itself to enhancing and exaggerating features and expressions.
The second theme was vibrancy, with our model instructed to look content, so I picked what I judged to be the four most vibrant shades in my oil pastel kit (a pink, a red, a purple and a yellow), and placed and blended them to create light and shadow. Im a fan of the clashing colours and think the sunset tones enhance the overall feeling of content.
